Booking Tips and Hints
|
|
When booking a holiday in privately owned properties, especially for the first time, it is
sensible to know what you are getting for your money.
Look for plenty of photographs and get a full written description of the property. Study them carefully. If in doubt,
ask the owner to clarify (how old are the photos?). Converted barns can sound charming but check they are up to your standards.
Facilities
Bunk beds, gallery bedrooms and mezzanines can indicate a 'compact' property. Check that the property has
enough bathrooms for a party of your size.
Check if the swimming pool is available for your exclusive use or if it will be shared with another group of
holidaymakers - or even the owners. Establish who is responsible for cleaning the pool and how often. Ask if there are any extras to pay for, such as towels, linen, electricity, gas or heating.
Check if towels (including pool towels) and bed linen are provided, or do you have to bring your own. Are your
beds made up for ready for your arrival? Is there a change of linen during your stay? Some of your party may be sun worshippers while others would rather sit outside in the shade. Check if this is possible.
Establish how far away you will be from the bakers in the morning, other shops, restaurants, bars or civilisation. If
you want seclusion, ask how far away the nearest neighbours are. Are laundry facilities provided? Is there a dishwasher? Check if you are required to clean the house on arrival and/or before departure.
Are cots and highchairs provided? Can babysitting be arranged? Some French houses do not have an oven or as
much kitchen equipment as you may be used to. If this is important to the 'Chef ' in your party, then check. Large parties who like cooking at 'home' may require two cookers and fridges.
Communications
Is there a landline telephone available. Can you get a signal on your mobile? Are there internet facilities?
Safety
Is there an English and French speaking contact who can help with repairs, emergencies or arrange medical
assistance? Enquire about procedures in the event of accidental damage or breakages. Are there stairgates, is there a pool alarm or a fenced pool?
Check if there is a smoking policy. Are pets allowed on the premises?
We hope that the above guidance will help you select a property suitable for your party and their particular needs. The
golden rules are - you usually get what you pay for and don't assume anything! |
